Rugby

Rugby is a team sport that originated in England in the early 19th century. It is characterized by two teams, typically consisting of 15 players each in rugby union, or 13 players each in rugby league, competing to score points by carrying, passing, and kicking an oval-shaped ball. The main objective is to score tries by grounding the ball in the opponent’s in-goal area, as well as converting tries for additional points through kick attempts.

Rugby is known for its physicality, strategy, and teamwork. The game is played on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end, and it emphasizes both individual skills and collective effort. Various forms of rugby exist, including sevens and touch rugby, which have their own specific rules and variations regarding the number of players and gameplay.

The sport is governed by World Rugby, the international federation, which establishes the laws of the game, and it has a passionate following worldwide, with professional leagues, international competitions, and the Rugby World Cup being significant events in the rugby calendar.
