марафон

The term “марафон” refers to a “marathon” in English. It is a long-distance running event, traditionally covering a distance of 42.195 kilometers (26.219 miles). The marathon is named after the legend of Pheidippides, an ancient Greek messenger who ran from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to announce the Greek victory over the Persians. Marathons are often held as competitive races, but they can also be participated in recreationally by people of varying fitness levels. They are popular events in many countries, and participants may train extensively for the physical and mental endurance required to complete the race.
