Athletics

Athletics is a collection of competitive sports that involve running, jumping, throwing, and walking. It is typically organized into events that showcase the physical prowess of athletes. The most common track and field events include sprints, middle-distance and long-distance running, hurdles, relays, long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, discus throw, and decathlon. Athletics can take place in various settings, including outdoor tracks and fields, indoor arenas, or cross-country courses. It is governed internationally by World Athletics and includes both individual and team competitions, often culminating in events like the Olympics, where athletes compete for medals and national pride. The events are categorized primarily into track events (running) and field events (jumping and throwing), emphasizing speed, strength, endurance, and agility. Athletics also serves as a foundation for various sports disciplines and promotes physical fitness, sportsmanship, and athleticism among participants.
